What's to come

Today has been a very busy day.  A lot of calls from recruiters.  A lot of email about various job offers.  Mostly good, but what is most interesting is what I see coming.  The IT industry is changing.  Between virtualization, SaaS/Cloud services, offshoring and proliferation of professional services, it looks like the relationship of IT professionals is being divorced from the actual job.  I'm not sure if that is good or bad.  I have had positive and negative experiences both as a permanent employee and as a contractor.  What do you think?

On a more personal note, I saw the news about the death of Steve Jobs before it was all over twitter and the internet.  I was moved by how Apple handled it.  I am not a big fan of Apple, mostly because they don't make themselves effective business tools.  But I don't deny that Steve Jobs had a huge impact on the industry. And overall it was a positive impact.  I hope that Apple continues to honor his legacy.

#1 I have a strong preference

I have a strong preference for employee positions overall, but if you're willing to deal with the differences in benefits and taxes, half of my reasons disappear immediately. -E-
